On 10th December 1914, 1st East Surrey battalion of 14 Brigade, 5th Division, moved into the line at Wulverghem, just south of the Ypres salient where they remained until relieved on 17th December when they moved back to St Jans Cappel for a few days and then on 23rd December to billets in Dranoutre. Here they were put to work on various tasks including digging new trenches. George Brush died from wounds on 27th December but it is not known on which date he was wounded.
